Westminster Scholarship success

We are absolutely delighted that our Year 8 student Yubo Chen has been awarded a Queens’ Scholarship at Westminster School. It is an extremely prestigious academic award at one of the country’s top independent schools. Yubo demonstrated extraordinary dedication and commitment to his studies in order to achieve this.

Pupils who gain an academic scholarship are known as the Queen’s Scholars, as although the scholarships were originally established by Henry VIII they were more formally affirmed and developed by his daughter, Elizabeth I, in 1560. This historic link with the royal family continues today and Queen’s Scholars are privileged to be able to attend a variety of special services in Westminster Abbey and have included the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Nelson Mandela Memorial Service and the 60th anniversary of the Coronation at which the Queen’s Scholars sang.

Headteacher Katherine Vintiner said, “ Yubo is a fantastically talented young man who possesses endless drive and determination. He set his sights on gaining a scholarship to Westminster School and worked his hardest to achieve it. I am incredibly proud of his achievement and of the wonderful teachers at Heathside that helped him achieve his goal. Well done Yubo!”
